Fly Fish the Everglades

A Backcountry Fly Fishing Guide to Everglades National Park

The Florida Everglades is one of the most unique and untouched fisheries in the country. Miles of mangroves, shallow bays, oyster bars, and quiet backchannels create endless fly fishing opportunities for tarpon, snook, redfish, and a variety of other inshore species.

I guide anglers through the backcountry of Chokoloskee, Everglades City, and the Ten Thousand Islands. This entire area is a maze of shallow water and life—a perfect playground for anyone who loves stalking fish with a fly rod.

Whether you’re chasing your first saltwater fish on fly or you’re looking for a true Everglades adventure, this fishery has something special to offer.

You get:

  • Remote, less pressured water

  • Shallow water sight fishing

  • Shots at snook, redfish, and tarpon

  • A wide mix of areas perfect for the fly rod

Snook

Snook are the heart of the Everglades. We find them on mangrove edges, creek mouths, points, oyster bars, and sometimes laid up.

Redfish

Red fish tail across mud flats, cruise edges, or sit on oyster bars waiting to ambush bait. This is some of the most rewarding sight-fishing you’ll find in Florida.

Tarpon

The Everglades holds a mix of resident and migratory tarpon. The tarpon fishing is world class during season however the Everglades is one of the only places with true potential for tarpon year round.

Where We Fish

In the Chokoloskee / Everglades City area, we can slip straight into the backcountry of Everglades National Park. This region has miles of mangrove shorelines, shallow bays, creeks, and oyster bars that hold snook, redfish, and tarpon throughout the year.

We also fish the lower stretches of the Ten Thousand Islands / Marco Island area, which offer excellent fishing depending on tides, weather, and seasonal movement. Every zone fishes a little differently, so we move around based on conditions to keep you on the best opportunities each day.

Best Times to Fish

Winter

Clear water and low tides, the winter offers excellent opportunity for redfish and snook and the occasional tarpon when the conditions line up.

Spring

Prime tarpon season, plenty of snook and redfish available.

Summer

Calm mornings, late season tarpon. Opportunities for juvenile tarpon as well as redfish and snook.

Fall

Mix of everything, cooler temperatures bring opportunities for all species depending on the conditions.

A Typical Day

Conditions will dictate meeting time and location but expect to leave early from Chokoloskee, Everglades City, or Goodland and fish quietly along shorelines, mangrove points, flats, and backwater creeks. The goal is simple: find clean water, good light, and fish that are ready to eat.

Every day is a little different. That’s what makes the Everglades special.
